TikTok star turned pop singer Addison Rae showed up at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last weekend and announced the release date of her long-awaited debut album. Following the viral success of “Diet Pepsi,” Rae has dropped a series of follow-ups—including “Aquamarine,” which she performed with Arca during the Venezuelan artist’s Coachella set—that have fallen shy of her sleeper hit’s status, but her new single, “Headphones On,” aims to change all that.
The four-minute track—which, like her other recent singles, was co-written by Rae and producers Luka Kloser and Elvira—boasts a smooth, new jack swing bounce straight out of 1994 and Lana Del Rey-coded lyrics like “Guess I gotta accept the pain/Need a cigarette to make me feel better/Every good thing comes my way/So I still get dolled up.” At one point, the singer refers to herself as “the new it girl,” and while that remains to be seen, “Headphones On” has us seated with our Airpods on for what comes next.

Rae’s as-yet-untitled album is due June 6 via Columbia Records.
