Taylor Swift has released the official music video for “The Fate of Ophelia,” the first single from her new album, The Life of a Showgirl. The clip premiered exclusively in movie theaters over the weekend as part of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, a “film event” that also features behind-the-scenes footage from the video shoot.
Written and directed by Swift, “The Fate of Ophelia” is a tour de force that pays tribute to showgirls through the ages, from Vegas dancers to silent film stars to Swift herself. The video begins with a shot of a painting of the singer as Ophelia, and ends with her chilling in a bathtub (as pictured on the album’s main cover) at the end of a show. Dancers and other members of Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour make cameos throughout.
